This visually stunning book features breathtaking photos of the massive destruction from Hurricane Sandy, centered around the Rockaways- a small stretch of Atlantic coastline which runs eastward from New York harbor along South Shore Long Island.

At it’s peak, Sandy obscured 1 Million square miles and stretched from the Carolinas to Canada, edges of the great lakes to the canyons of the North Atlantic. The devastation left in it’s wake was, and still is, astonishing- and are captured beautifully in this book by talented photographer Gilles Peress. The book also contains essays, reports, and 1st hand accounts of the storm and it’s aftermath.

This book will leave you breathless- the amount of loss the people who were effected by Sandy endured is incredible, as was the community’s efforts to pull together to help eachother. The Rockaways captures the heart and soul of the storm and the people who survived it all.
